How to remove Activation Lock before you ship

Back up anything you want to keep (Time Machine or iCloud).
On the Mac: Apple menu › System Settings › [your name] › Sign Out, then General › Transfer or Reset › Erase All Content and Settings.
Can't access the Mac? Go to icloud.com/find, sign in, pick this device, choose Erase, then Remove from Account.
Come back and tap Re-check status to confirm it's clear.
